A dental implant is a titanium rod, which is placed into the jaw bone. It is used to replace one or more teeth. In practice, both the crown and their supporting rod are known as 'implants'.
Implants are a well-established, tried and tested treatment. 90% of modern implants last for at least 15 years.
You may need to have a tooth/teeth extracted prior to the dental implant being fitted. Placing implants requires a small operation, this is carried out under a local anaesthetic, sedation or a general anaesthetic. The placement will therefore be painless, but you may feel some discomfort during the week following surgery.
Crane Dental provides temporary restorations if you have tooth/teeth removed, bridges and dentures are often used for the healing process. This usually takes 6-12 weeks but may take longer depending on the complexity of the situation. Once fully healed, your crown or 'implant' teeth with then be fitted to the rod.
