We believe prevention is better than cure. Preventing problems occurring, rather than treating them when they arise, is what preventative care is all about. A simple routine of brushing and cleaning between teeth to remove plaque, plus good eating habits and regular dental examinations, can prevent most dental problems.
At your dental examination appointment, we will be inspecting for the early signs of decay, gum disease and oral cancer. You should see your dentist as advised or at least annually.
A few small lifestyle changes are very simple to make in your daily routine and can make a big difference in the long run, as can regular visits to the dental hygienist who will also check your teeth for signs of decay and gum disease, before giving them a thorough clean and polish. All teeth are different; some people, for example, are more prone to gum problems than others, and this is where our hygienist can advise on how to treat your teeth at home.
Visit your dentist for regular dental examinations, try to have less sugary and acidic food, avoid snacking between meals as this limits the time your teeth are under attack from acids. Chewing sugar free-gum for ten minutes after meals helps to neutralise acids. Do not brush your teeth immediately after eating or drinking - wait for 30 minutes for acids to neutralise. Spit toothpaste out after brushing, and do not rinse.
Your dentist and dental therapist/hygienist will show you which areas you need to take most care of when cleaning your teeth.
